Uranus is the seventh planet from the Sun. Uranus was the first planet that was discovered in modern history and was actually discovered by accident in 1781 by William Herschel. There are many physical characteristics of Uranus. Uranus is mostly composed of rocks and various ices. There is just 15% hydrogen and a little helium. Uranus is analogous to the cores of Jupiter and Saturn minus the considerable liquid metallic hydrogen envelope. It appears that Uranus lacks a hard core like Jupiter and Saturn. Uranus cyan color is due to the red light absorption by atmospheric methane. Uranus is a gigantic ball of gas and liquid. The equators diameter is approximately 31,763 miles. This is roughly four times that of Earth. Uranus pictures of the planet portray only a couple clouds visible through the atmosphere. Uranus has a magnetic field. The magnetic field is generated by convection currents in an electrically conducting interior. The magnetic field is strange because it is not centered on the center of the planet. It is tilted almost 60 degrees with respect to the axis of rotation. Uranus's surface is consists of blue-green clouds containing tiny methane crystals. The methane crystals are frozen out of Uranus's atmosphere. Way beneath these clouds are thicker cloud layers composed of crystals of ammonia ice and liquid water. Uranus may have a molten core some 4,000 miles in diameter surrounded by a layer of superheated water like 5,000 miles deep, scientists suspect. Scientists conclude that Uranus does not have any form of life. The specifications of Uranus is that its mass is 86,810,300,000,000,000 billion kg (14.536 x Earth). Uranus's mass is approximately 14.5 times the mass of Earth. This makes it the lightest of the four gas giants of the outer Solar System. The equatorial diameter of Uranus is 51,118 km. The surface gravity of Uranus is 8.69 m/s^2. The surface temperature of Uranus is 197 °C or 386.6 Fahrenheit. The mean radius of Uranus is 15,759 miles. At the equator, the radius expands to 15,882 miles. The oblate spheroid is the bulge that gives Uranus a shape. Uranus has no solid surface so if you were to take a walk around the equator of Uranus it would take you 99,018 miles. Uranus is 401% the size of the planet Earth. Uranus has 27 moons altogether and 5 major moons. They were all named after characters from the works of Alexander Pope, and William Shakespeare. The 27 moons are Cordelia, Ophelia, Bianca, Cressida, Desdemona, Juliet, Portia, Rosalind, Mab, Belinda, Perdita, Puck, Cupid, Miranda, Francisco, Ariel, Umbriel, Titania, Oberon, Caliban, Stephano, Trinculo, Sycorax, Margaret, Prospero, Setebos, and Ferdinand. There's some very unique aspects of the moon. For example there is Miranda which is the innermost and tiniest of the five major satellites. It has a surface that's more unique than any other moon that's been seen. The mass is 6.591019 kg . The quatorial diameter 471.6 km The mean density is 1.20 g/cm3 . The surface gravity is 0.079 m/s2. It has big fault canyons as much as 12 times as deep as the Grand Canyon. Another moon is Ariel. Ariel has the youngest and brightest surface out of all Uranus's moons. It doesn't have many huge craters and only a few small ones. The relatively recent low impact collisions wiped the big craters that would have left by much earlier, larger strikes. Ariel has a mass of
Metric: 1,294,849,526,195,970,000,000 kg Scientific Notation: 1.2948 x 1021 kg. The volume is Metric: 812,641,988 km3. The surface area is Metric: 4,211,307.59 km2. The surface gravity is Metric: 0.258 m/s2. Umbriel is ancient. It has a mass of 1.2 x 1021 kg. The surface temperature is -198.15 degrees Celsius. It has a surface gravity of 0.2 m/s2 (~ 0.023 g). It is It is the darkest of the five big moons. It has quite a few old, huge craters and has a peculiar bright ring on one side. Oberon is extremely old deeply cratered and shows barely any signs of internal activity. Oberon has a mass of 3.0141021 kg. The equatorial diameter is 761.4 km. The surface gravity is 0.346 m/s2. The surface temperature is minus 215 Celsius and minus 355 Fahrenheit. Oberon is made up of generally 50% water ice, 30% silicate rock, and 20% methane-related carbon/nitrogen composites. The surface of Oberon is dark and kind of reddish in appearance. It was originally impacted by asteroid and comet impacts. Oberon is covered by abundant impact craters that are 210 km as a diameter. The moon Juliet is mass of Metric: 557,504,657,112,156,000 kg Scientific Notation: 5.5750 x 1017 kg. The density is Metric: 1.3 g/cm3. The surface area is Metric: 27,523.37 km2. The surface gravity is Metric: 0.017 m/s2. The orbital characteristics is mean radius is 64358 km. The orbital period is 0.49307d . The inclination is 0.06. Uranus has many rings. The ring names are Zeta, 6, 5, 4, Alpha, Beta, Eta,Gamma, Delta, Epsilon, Nu, Mu. Uranus has 9 brighter rings and a couple fainter rings. There's belts of fine dust that surrounds some of the bigger rings. Ice boulders several feet across makes up the outermost ring. The other rings are composed of icy chunks that become darker by the rocks. The rings are thin, narrow and very dark in comparison to the rings of other different planets. They reflect about as much light as Charcoal, because of their darkness. |
